Who owns your Facebook content? Who has access to your Facebook content?
Most important
Do you know how to copy and paste? So do others. The reality of our current online world is that content is easily distributed, whether you wanted it to be or not. This is not a Facebook issuee. This is a reality of the Internet. Safest solution? Recognize how easily photo and video is taken and distributed. Consider that fact when you post content online (Facebook or elsewhere) and recognize when there is a possibility others may take photos or video of you.
Also Important
Facebook is no different than any other online application to whom we entrust our content. Facebook's servers could fail and you could lose everything you posted. This is a danger of posting information in "the cloud". If your content is not elsewhere and its really important to you, put it elsewhere (ie. back it up).
Legally Facebook owns your content. Would they dare to use it in a way that resulted in bad press for them? Possibly but doubtful. The proposed new Facebook governance language states when users delete or remove content Facebook no longer has a right to that content (unless the content is also on another person's profile).
Technically you control who has access to your Facebook content. Adjust the privacy settings to your comfort level. (Hover over Settings and choose Privacy.) If you allow access to photos or video you would rather not be copy and pasted elsewhere then be very certain of those with whom you have entrusted this access.
There are 14 year old hackers who live to figure out how to get around security settings, but what do you think the chances are those kids want to see your Facebook Profile among 200 million users?
Simple Advice
Do not post anything yourself that you would not want a new colleague to see. Unfriend anyone who would post content you would not want a new colleague to see. Change your Privacy Settings to control who has access to photos and videos tagged of you.
